Global Sunday is Dec. 15

Featuring Guest Preacher Calla Gilson

Calla Gilson

In addition to our global music on Sunday, December 15,we will welcome Calla Gilson as a representative of ELCA Global Mission.

Calla served in Jerusalem and the West Bank, walking alongside Palestinian Christians in the Middle East. During her year of service, Calla worshiped with an Arabic-speaking Lutheran congregation and volunteered in a Lutheran school sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL). She served as an assistant teacher for Kindergarten and Early Elementary English classes, and tutored Special Education students. During her year of service, Calla spent her time in the kitchen learning about the culinary traditions of Palestine, gardening, and hiking alongside our companions in the diverse landscapes of the region.

Calla grew up in Fulton County, Ohio as an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wauseon and the Northwestern Ohio Synod. She graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, DC with a degree in International Affairs and Religion. Her time in Washington and in the pews of Luther Place Memorial Church shaped her understanding of the call we all have to be agents of peace and justice in our communities and in our world. Calla is currently serving as a Mission Funding Interpreter with the ELCA. She is excited to have the opportunity to speak with congregations and share stories of the beauty and deep abiding faith she experienced as a YAGM in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

As we journey toward Bethlehem in our biblical story, Calla will provide an update on Lutheran mission in the Holy Land in the present.
