Special offerings for Lent
For centuries, almsgiving has been one of the traditional practices of Lent. This practice involves making gifts of money, food, or other goods intended to help those who are poor. For this reason, many churches focus on addressing hunger during Lent. Trinity’s Lay Ministry commission has identified three organizations for our congregation to support this season. You can either donate to these organizations directly, or you can send in your offering to church using your Lent envelopes. Please be sure to note that you are designating this gift for “hunger.”
The three hunger organizations we’ll be supporting are:
- ELCA World Hunger – online giving at https://community.elca.org/40daysdonate
- The Fritz Food Pantry at the Goodman Center – online giving at www.goodmancenter.org/donate
- St. Mark’s Food Pantry – more information at http://stmarksmadison.org/food-pantry.aspx
See the next post for information about a devotional series that we will participate in as part of our Lenten focus, “40 Days of Giving” from ELCA World Hunger.
